-FrInkO-

MADRID, Spain -- Karim Benzemas goal gave Real Madrid a 1-0 first-leg victory over title holder Bayern Munich on Wednesday, but the nine-time champions may live to regret the missed chances in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal. Joe Flacco Jersey . Madrid endured plenty of pressure in the first leg match, but scored from a 19th-minute counter-attack. Cristiano Ronaldo found Fabio Coentrao speeding down the left flank and Benzema steered his low cross past goalkeeper Manuel Neuer. Ronaldo returned from a left leg injury but missed a number of scoring opportunities before eventually giving way to Gareth Bale, who had started on the bench after battling with flu. Bayern pressed for an equalizer in the closing stages, forcing Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas to deny Mario Goetze in the 84th minute while fellow substitute Thomas Mueller had no better luck with his late effort from inside the area. But Madrid should have extended its lead ahead of Tuesdays return leg in Germany, as the team bids to end a three-season semifinal losing streak and reach the final for the first time since winning in 2002. "If you want to do damage, you have to go for the victory -- because 1-0 is not definitive," Madrid defender Sergio Ramos said as he looked ahead to a tough second leg match. "But its a good result to take to Munich." Atletico Madrid or Chelsea await in the May 24 final in Lisbon, with the pair playing to a scoreless draw in their first-leg match on Tuesday. Pep Guardiola endured his first loss at the Bernabeu as coach after seven previous visits with Barcelona, and at times the encounter took on the appearance of a "clasico" with Madrid looking to capitalize on the break while the visitors controlled play. "Madrid thrives off the counter attack, Madrid is the best team in the world on the counter," Guardiola said. "They get back as fast as they go forward, theyre athletes." Madrids defence did well to contain Bayern in its area and then break quickly, but the Spanish club squandered its other chances after Benzema broke the deadlock. Ronaldo, who looked uncomfortable at times despite passing a late fitness test, followed up a sharp header at Neuer with a first-time shot from Luka Modrics perfect pass in the 26th minute -- only for his effort to fly high over the top with just the Germany keeper to beat. Madrid dug in and did well to clear many of Bayerns best opportunities as it controlled three-quarters of possession in the first half. The German champions found space between the lines and combined some swift passing movements, with Franck Ribery picking out Arjen Robben inside the area in the 39th. But Madrid weathered each buildup before surging forward, with Angel Di Maria gathering a loose ball at the right post only to wildly shoot over Neuer before halftime. After the break, Neuer had to dive low to keep out Ronaldos angled shot after a Bayern defensive mix-up. Ronaldo forced Neuer into another low save before giving way to Bale, who energized Madrids attack with his pace. The Welshman was playing for the first time since his stunning winner in Madrids 2-1 victory over Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final. "Its been 20 days Cristiano hasnt been 100 per cent, so it was a sacrifice for him. It couldnt have been easy for Cristiano tonight," said Ancelotti, who remained unbeaten against Bayern with his fifth win in seven meetings. "But Cristiano and Bale will be 100 per cent" for the return, the Italian coach added. Guardiola brought on Mueller and Goetze for the final quarter and Mueller nearly equalized with a rising shot in the 81st. A chance then fell to Goetze in the Madrid area but Casillas reacted well to stop the Germans powerful volley. "They had chances to score more goals, definitely," said Guardiola. "We probably should have created a few more scoring chances. (But) they have a very good defence." Bayern had gone 29 matches without scoring coming into the 20th meeting between the storied European rivals, and will still rate its chances of reaching a third straight final with the return leg at home. Joe Flacco Youth Jersey . MORITZ, Switzerland -- Latvia won a four-man World Cup bobsled race Sunday, while the U. Drew Lock Youth Jersey . - A pitch clock will be used this season during minor league games at Triple-A and Double-A, but it has been ruled out for the major leagues this year. http://www.broncosrookiestore.com/Broncos-Dre-Mont-Jones-Jersey/ . The Packers, Lions and Bears were a combined 35-15 and as long as Jay Cutler can say healthy, all three could make the playoffs in 2012.HAMILTON, Ont. -- If the Hamilton Tiger-Cats want to beat the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday night, theyll have to stop the run game. Specifically, they will have to stop Jon Cornish. Watch the Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats live tonight at 6pm et/3pm pt on TSN and TSN Mobile TV. "What the run game allows them to do is obviously control the clock and keep your offence off the football field," said Ticat head coach Kent Austin on Friday. For the Ticats, Austin said that means being "more efficient" on first downs, and making sure they can sustain long drives. Otherwise, it may be a while before they get the ball back. While the Ticats under Henry Burris have a league-leading passing attack, throwing for 322.8 yards per game, its ground game is lacking. The Ticats have only rushed for an average 84.2 yards per game, second last in the CFL. The Ticat passing game will also face the challenge of operating without its leading receiver, Greg Ellingson, who is reportedly out with a lower-body injury. He will be replaced by rookie Luke Tasker, who was just signed on Sept. 17 and whose father is former Buffalo Bills pro-bowler Steve Tasker. Meanwhile, the Stamps have a more balanced attack, thanks largely to Cornish who is the CFLs second-leading rusher with 1,093 yards to date. Calgary is fifth in average passing yards (263 yards per game) and second in rushing (132 yards per game). Former Ticat Kevin Glenn is back as the starting quarterback for Calgary, in a season where the Stamps have had to rely on all three of its pivots. Glenn spent three years in Hamilton before being traded to Calgary in January 2012. But while Ticat linebacker Jamall Johnson agreed that he may know Glenns tendencies better than most, stopping Cornish is the priority. "First of all, weve got to stop the run," Johnson said. "I think everything they (Calgary) do revolvess around their running back and their running game. Royce Freeman Jersey. " Calgary (9-3) has already clinched a playoff berth and sits atop the West Division, one game ahead of B.C. and Saskatchewan heading into this week. They are coming off last weeks 33-27 loss to the Toronto Argonauts. Hamilton (6-6) is second in the East Division, behind Toronto, and is hoping to continue the momentum from a 28-26 victory over the Montreal Alouettes in Moncton. "Right now, just to get on a roll, I think thats the biggest psychological thing that could happen right now because you want to start to peak at the right time," said Burris, who spent a combined 10 years as the Stampeder quarterback before coming to Hamilton and currently leads the league with 3,765 passing yards. The two offences are evenly matched. Calgary is second in the CFL with an average of 377.2 yards per game and Hamilton is third with 375.3 yards per game. The defences are also close in numbers. Calgary is fourth in the league, having allowed 337.4 yards per game while the Hamilton defence is fifth with 359.3 yards allowed. But the Calgary defence also boasts a couple weapons of which Burris, in particular, will have to be aware. They have two of the leagues top-three sack leaders with Charleston Hughes (13) and Cordarro Law (nine), and Fred Bennett has three interceptions, tied for tops in the CFL. The Stamps and the Ticats met in Calgary on Sept. 13 with Calgary squeaking out a 26-22 victory when back-up quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell hit former Ticat receiver Marquay McDaniel for a 15-yard TD late in the fourth. Austin blames mistakes made late in the game that allowed the Stamps to come back. "We left the door open for them and good football teams will take advantage of that," he said. "Youve got to close off a good football team because they will find a way to win." ' ' '
